Level 2 electric vehicle chargers can range from 12 to 80 amps, requiring between 3 and nearly 20 kilowatts of power. Be sure to pick the right size charger for your driving needs. Higher powered chargers may require additional electrical upgrades to your home and may even require utility upgrades to the transformer and service that supplies electricity to your home. These upgrades will increase your project costs. Before purchasing a charging solution, talk with your electrician about electrical requirements and potential upgrades, including utility upgrades, that may be needed.
